OLE documentation

I am reading the "DOORS DXL Reference Manual DOORS 8.1 MN-DOR-ED-DXL80-06-01". I was trying to get a handle on OLE routines for reading Excel files. I came across the following statement on page 654 for the oleMethod function:

"This example is for Excel 95; it does not work with Excel 97."

Check out my Excel Functions on Kevin Murphy's site.

To add to it I typically create a Macro in Excel and then figure out the DXL. It's actually quite easy.

Thanks for the reply. I had actually found your code yesterday from a google search.

I notice that you open Excel each time with oleCreateAutoObject(). However, the DOORS DXL online documentation for DOORS 8.1 shows them first trying oleGetAutoObject() and then if that doesn't succeed they do an oleCreateAutoObject(). I was doing it their way and it doesn't return null. Is there a reason to avoid their way?

That should have read "oleGetAutoObject" doesn't return null.

I believe their way is to get a handle on an active Excel instance. I just open a new one.
